Alcides Alba-Gomez, of Providence, was sentenced in Bridgeport district court to 30 months in prison, followed by three years of supervised release after pleading guilty to one count of possession with intent to distribute 40 grams or more of fentanyl earlier this year.
U.S. Attorney John Durham said that on Sept. 13, 2017, Alba-Gomez and his cohort Gabri Javier Delapaz traveled from Rhode Island to New York to pick up drugs from their supplier. While on their way home, they were stopped on I-95 in Old Lyme. During that stop, a search of the car revealed a package containing approximately a kilogram of fentanyl that had been hidden under the cushion in the backseat.
Alba-Gomez, 29, has been detained since his arrest on Sept. 13, 2017. Delapaz, also of Providence, pleaded guilty to the same offense and is awaiting sentencing.
